With the economic outlook still uncertain and many people still losing jobs right around the globe many people are looking to home businesses as a saviour against job insecurity and a potential means of future security.
As with any business a home business has challenges to be faced, challenges such as competitors to beat, developing a core customer base, business costs and more. There are also some not quite so obvious challenges which folks usually overlook until suddenly faced with them.
Two of these are very important so I’m going to spell them out and hope you’ll think about them before you jump into the business idea you’ve just had.
The particular challenges I’m thinking of are the ones of keeping yourself motivated and that of fitting the business into your family life. These are very important points! They need to be considered before you get started on the other challenges.
Staying motivated when working alone at home is tougher than you might think. Most humans are made to be social, we tend to perform best like that and just having a teammate to work with can make all the difference. The lack of face to face contact with others can be tough until you adjust to it, some never do and find themselves wanting to get back into employment for that reason alone. Another motivation problem can arise with the weather, yes when it’s sunny outside and the beach is looking good it’s hard to resist temptation and easy to waste time.
Fitting a home business into family life can also be a challenge, particularly if you have young children at home. They don’t understand that mom or dad has to be left alone to get on with the business, they just see you there and available to play with. Similarly if your partner needs help with household chores they are going to find it difficult to not ask you to help.
You can ease this situation a little if you have a dedicated work area, maybe in the garage rather than a corner of the lounge room but you’ll still have plenty of distraction.
Now before you get to planning your new businesses tasks, do have a think over these points. Are you sure you are suited to home business and how are your family going to live with the business under their feet, you’ll be more prepared for it when those issues arise.
