Duplicate content

One of the key details of search engine optimization is to have a good, unique content. It can be seen by many as the most difficult thing in SEO. Arranging inlinks, optimize the structure, etc. are some of the easiest for many, but when it comes to content they often freeze.

The reason that the content must be unique is due to Google’s way to prevent plagiarism of web pages. “Duplicate content” refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either is 100% the same or very similar. If Google believes that the two sites has the same content, then usually the page where the content was first on“win” , unless there are very large differences between the pages PageRank, then actually a page that presents the same content later than the origin will win the battle.

There are some cases when the “duplicate content” or plagiarism can not be avoided within the domains, but this is according to Google, however quite ok. Such as forums, which presents a version for regular visitors and have a version optimized for mobile phones, or items that have a special page to print the article without getting a lot of other unnecessary on the printed page. In these situations you must insert, in the head section of the page, following line of code to explain to search engines that this page is a copy of page X and that X is the page that should appear in search results:

Google also evaluates a site if it has a content which it interprets as valuable to visitors, which then includes first, that it must be unique and secondly that it should be well structured.
